Khaya Center in Lehae is a community based center offering a feeding scheme, primary health care and life skills training.
The center does not have its own power supply so at present it has an arrangement with the neighbor to share the connection. It pays for its consumption by purchasing prepaid vouchers which the neighbor loads into the prepaid meter. This is not a ideal solution for many reasons. The management consulted with Enerlogy to propose a better solution. Enerlogy proposed a 5kW rooftop solar PV plant
The center has now raised enough money to install the 5 kW solar PV installation of its own. This system will generate 25kWh per day, sufficient to cater for its needs.
THE SYSTEM IS NOW INSTALLED AND FULLY FUNCTIONAL.
We are now designing the battery backup system and hope to install this early in the new year.
The connection to the neighbor will remain to act as a interim backup.
